Following the Government guidelines for Covid-19, in-year applications will remain closed for the remainder of this academic year.
However during the pandemic, applications will still be processed for 'key workers' and 'vulnerable children and young people'. To apply, please contact the admission team (firstname.lastname@example.org) providing details.
Definition Of 'Vulnerable Children and Young People' and 'Key Workers'
Vulnerable children and young people, who:
- are assessed as being in need under section 17 of the Children Act 1989, including children who have a child in need plan, a child protection plan or who are a looked after child.
- have been assessed as otherwise vulnerable by educational providers or local authorities (including children’s social care services), and who are therefore in need of continued education provision. This might include children on the edge of receiving support from children’s social care services, adopted children, or those who are young carers, and others at the provider and local authority discretion.
- have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) whose needs cannot be met safely in the home environment.
Applications will also be processed for children whose parents are critical to the COVID 19 response, or work in one of the critical sectors listed in the Government guidance, and who cannot keep their child safe at home.
Children moving into the County/Hinchingbrooke School catchment area are expected to access their current school’s online provision.

ACADEMIC YEAR - SEPTEMBER 2020 - JULY 2021
For a school place starting from September 2020 (or whenever the school re-opens for the relevant Year Group after the 1st September) you can apply from 1st June 2020. This does NOT presently apply for admission to Year 7, please see "Admission to 7" section below.
- Applications received from 29th June will be processed in date order of receipt and will be responded to within ten school days.
- Any applications received after the 7th July will not be processed before the end of term as there is less than ten school days remaining.
- Applications are not processed during the summer holidays.
Admission to Year 7 (September of next Academic Year)
The application process for admissions into Year 7 is co-ordinated by Cambridgeshire Local Authority (LA), which acts on behalf of the governing body to offer places at the School. Parents should apply online at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/admissions or submit a Cambridgeshire Application Form, available from their child’s primary school or from the LA Admissions Team, no later than the national closing date on 31st October. The LA will issue offer letters on the National Offer Date (1st March or first working day after). The LA Admissions Team will handle late applications (those submitted after the national closing date).

Where the number of students exceeds the Published Admission Number in any year group, an in-year waiting list will be maintained. If you are on the list, the school will notify you when a place becomes available. See the school’s Admissions Policy, below, for more information on how waiting lists are administered.
Please note that for in-year applications a child's details will be held on a reserve list for two terms, including the term of application. After this time the school Admissions Team should be contacted if applicants wish their child(ren) to remain on the reserve list. Names held on the reserve list will not be carried over to a new school year.

IMPACT OF CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) ON ADMISSION APPEALS
Current Academic Year - September 2019 – July 2020
In light of recent Government guidance around social distancing and advice that non-essential contact be reduced, Hinchingbrooke School has taken the following decision:
We will postpone all In-Year appeals scheduled to take place up until and post the Easter break. Those who have submitted appeals and received a hearing date, will received separate communication outlining our decision.
We will continue to monitor the situation and to seek guidance from the DfE and will continue to keep this message updated.
