Why study Sport and Physical Activity Cambridge Technicals Level 3?
Sport currently sits in the top 15 industrial sectors in England, contributing £20.3 billion to the economy in 2014, 1.9% of the total. The number of sport related jobs in the UK is estimated at over 400,000. The sector also has a large number of volunteers, with the estimated economic value of sport-related volunteering at c£2.7 billion.
Additionally, participation in sport brings health benefits to the nation, which is currently estimated at c£11.2 billion.
The Cambridge Technical is recognised by schools, colleges, universities and employers; a practical, real-world approach to learning; offers progress to further education, training and employment.
What does the course involve?
The Cambridge Technical in Sport teaches the knowledge and skills you need to work in the industry.
- Learn about about the components of fitness and the principles of training and explore different training methods;
- Develop team working skills by organizing and leading sports activities and events and carrying out a variety of roles in a team;
- Present your work in a variety of ways, online research & using applications for presenting projects;
- Develop business and customer awareness;
- Investigate opportunities for employment in the industry, as well as exploring trends which effect participation in sport.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment happens throughout the course, in the form of written assignments and examinations.
There are three mandatory core units and two further option units.
- Mandatory Core Units Unit 1 – Body systems and the effects of physical activity (Examination)
- Structures and functions of the key body systems.
- Effects that physical activity, training and lifestyle can have on them.
- Unit 2 – Sports coaching
- What makes good sports coaches and activity leaders?
- Methods to improve the performance of participants.
- Effectively plan and deliver a series of sports or activity sessions reflecting on your own practice and using this feedback to improve your performance as a sports coach or activity leader.
- Unit 3 – Sports organisation and development (Examination)
- Organisations involved in sport in the UK, their roles and responsibilities and how they work together.

- Unit 8 – Organisation of Sports Events
- Planning, promoting and delivering a sports event.
- This unit will enable you to establish transferrable skills which can be used within sport and active leisure as well as within the fitness industry.
- Unit 18 – Practical skills in sports and physical activities
- Participation in a number of different sports and outdoor and adventurous activities which allows you to experience first-hand situations that participants you may later be coaching or leading will come across.
