Engineering Talk from Bechtel graduates

Four graduate engineers from Bechtel, an international company which manages a significant number of large engineering projects worldwide, came in to talk to budding engineers from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13

On Wednesday 12th November, four graduate engineers from Bechtel, an international company which manages a significant number of large engineering projects worldwide, came in to talk to budding engineers from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13. The talks covered mechanical, civil and electrical engineering disciplines and the speakers described what their jobs entailed, how they got to where they are now and were also able to give advice on which types of engineering courses to apply for at university. One of the speakers was also able to give information on ways in to engineering through the apprenticeship route and after the event said “everybody was so happy to take part in the event and truly enjoyed speaking to your students”. The students were able to see how, as an engineer in one discipline, they contributed to the whole project. They were also shown that, as an engineer for a large company, you have the opportunity to travel worldwide which the students found very exciting. Students asked a number of questions and left the talk feeling motivated to follow a career in engineering.
