Dame Veronica with sixth form students, Tooba, Megan, Zenab, Brooke and Emma.

Through the Speakers for schools Programme, we were privileged to welcome Dame Veronica Sutherland to Hinchingbrooke 6th Form. Dame Veronica spoke to Year 12 girls about her extensive and fascinating Diplomatic Career, in Denmark, France and India until being appointed to be the UK Ambassador to the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Niger, and her final posting as Ambassador in Dublin. Dame Veronica was the first married female Ambassador ever appointed in the United Kingdom.

In her inspirational talk to the girls Dame Veronica recollected her meetings with famous Statesmen and women throughout the world, from the Queen to Ronan Keating! Her talk gave the girls important insights into the role of the Diplomatic service, and also how equal rights for women have been gained in the Post War period.

The girls were highly engaged and asked lots of thought provoking questions, on which Dame Veronica congratulated them.
