Hinchingbrooke School

You are here:

Key Stage 4 Options (Year 9)

During next term students will be making their choices for which courses they wish to study at Key Stage 4. This is clearly an important point in their education.

At Hinchingbrooke we take pride in ensuring that our students, as well as their parents or carers, are as well equipped to make these choices as possible. To this end we organise a number of events for students and parents. In particular you may wish to note in your diary the dates of the options evening and parents evening as these are aimed at parents as well as students.

Key Dates for Year 9

29th January

Year 9 options assembly

Students will be introduced to the options process and how many choices they are able to make. They will also be told about where they can get help and how to make the choices.

30th January

Key Stage 4 options booklets issued

All year 9 students will be issued with a copy of the options booklet as well as more details about the options evening

4th February

Key Stage 4 options evening

Parents will have the chance to learn about the options process, how it works and how best to help their children make their choices. There will also be course specific workshops delivered by departments to explain the course content and assessment.

 24th February

Options workshops

Students have the chance to meet with subject staff to receive information about the courses to help them make their own choices.

25th February

Year 9 parents evening

A chance to meet with your son / daughters teachers to discuss progress, their formative report and possible options for KS4 courses

21st March

Options deadline

The final date by which a completed options form should be returned by all students

Further information will be sent home via students and through Parent mail about the Key Stage 4 options evening and the Year 9 parents evening nearer the time of both events.

Your support with this process is vital if it is to be successful. By ensuring that students receive appropriate guidance and information from school and home we can help them to make the right choices for next year and beyond.
