As you will be aware, Hinchingbrooke School's policy on mobile phones and other electronic devices changed in September 2013. We recognise that mobile phones are an essential part of adult working life and as such are keen to embrace their use. Indeed, allowing students to access the resources that such devices offer has been extremely beneficial in promoting greater independence in students' learning in the classroom. As well as a desire to embrace new technology, allowing mobile phones provides us with greater opportunity to educate young people in how to use such devices responsibly, working in partnership with parents.

During this term Year 9 will be completing the most important single process of their schooling so far- Post 14 options choices. Students will be told about a number of events in school to provide them with the information they need to make informed choices. We are also keen to provide you with this information so that you can help them make their choices.
On 4th February there is a Key Stage 4 Options evening for all parents/carers of year 9 students. The evening starts at 7.00pm and is expected to finish by 9.00pm. Your son / daughter is also welcome to attend if they wish. However, there will be events in school to support their choices.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Please find attached information about the Year 8 preferences process. In year 9, we offer a programme whereby students are taught core subjects but are also able to choose three subjects that they have a particular interest in.
Free School Meals/Pupil Premium/Secondary School Clothing Allowance
Registering your child for Free School Meals means that the school gets extra money? Register now to make sure we don’t miss out.
The Government is giving money to schools to help children from lower income families do their very best. This funding is called a ‘Pupil Premium’. For every child registered, Hinchingbrooke School receives a payment.
Adoption agencies such as Coram have been asked by the Department for Education to make adoptive parents aware of the Pupil Premium for adopted children that will be applicable from April 2014 and they have provided further information........
To enable your child’s school to claim the Pupil Premium, you will need to inform the school about your child and provide supporting evidence, for example, show the school the original Adoption (Court) Order. You will need to self-declare before 16 January 2014 which is the date schools complete the annual School Census. This will then trigger the payment of the Pupil Premium to the school from April 2014.

You may be aware that there has been an increase in the number of measles cases in England, with some local outbreaks this year. Measles usually causes a runny nose, red eyes, cough, high temperature and rash. It can also cause complications including ear infections, diarrhoea, pneumonia and convulsions. Very serious complications, such as inflammation of the brain (encephalitis) are rare, but can be fatal.
