Week A Commencing 13th May 2019
Message of the Week
Welcome to week 32
Congratulations to Tom Smith for outstanding results in the County Championships at the weekend. Tom won three medals in three events: Gold in the Discus (35.21) Silver in the Shot (11.29) and Silver in the Hammer (37.47). The Hammer and Shot were also Personal Bests for Tom, so a truly impressive result. We’re proud of you, Tom – very well done!
Congratulations also to the Public Speaking winners from the House competition:
Year 7 winners, Pepys, below:
Joint winners of Year 8 – Wylton ….
… and Cromwell:
Hot Chocolate Friday is a reward for our students who behave impeccably, but are too easily forgotten, or in recognition of going ‘Over & Above’ in some significant way.
We had Hot Choc celebrations for both individuals and teams last week:
Firstly, the Boccia team, who have been so successful under the leadership of Jabe:
Secondly, our amazing site team, who keep our environment fully functional and beautiful:
And last but not least, Bailey, for greatly improving his attitude to learning – well done Bailey J
Golden Antler Winners
Each week, the tutor groups with the highest number of 5s (for great attitudes to learning) are awarded a Golden Antler trophy. Following the award of the trophy, the tutor arranges for a celebratory photograph to be taken. It is then displayed around school.
Last week, the Lower School Golden Antlers winner was …
… 7C1. Well done again to these Cromwell students for excellent attitudes to learning.
And winner of the Middle School Golden Antlers was …
… 11M2 – Well done to the year 11 students in this Montagu tutor group.
Monday, May 13th
The path opposite the school will be closed on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday, 14th May. The temporary closure is necessary for Anglian Water to do some exploratory work. PARENTS, PLEASE ADVISE ALL STUDENTS THAT THEY MUST FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS FROM STAFF ABOUT ENTRY AND EXIT FROM THE SCHOOL WHEN THE PATH IS CLOSED. Their safety is uppermost in our minds when we redirect them.
Hopefully the pathway will be open again on Thursday. We will let you know if anything changes.

Year 13 Study arrangements:
Post 16 exams are earlier this year, with some happening before the summer half term, and Art, BTEC and AS exams earlier still. The Exam timetable is on the school website.
Students will be given the half day off timetable prior to any exam before half-term, i.e. the morning off if they have an afternoon exam, and the afternoon before off if they have a morning exam. We will, however, keep teaching lessons up to half term.
After half term, teachers will be available at the times that Year 13 lessons would have occurred for any students who want support until their exams. Course teams will also put on Revision Workshops, which they will advertise to students. Some courses may wish to continue putting on structured lessons. In these cases, they will inform their students, who must attend. If they are unable to attend, students should communicate with their teachers in the usual manner.

We have a number of interviews over the next two weeks, from support roles to a new Principal. We will share names and positions with you all once appointments have been made.
And finally, the very best of luck to all our students who are sitting exams.
This can also be a stressful time for parents of students sitting exams. The NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/stress-anxiety-depression/coping-with-exam-stress/ offers some great advice, such as after each exam, encourage your child to talk about it, focusing on what went well rather than what can’t be changed, then move on to focus on the next exam.
