I hear the Year 13 Biologists had a great time last week.  The Head Girl has made it back, although it was touch and go, and at one stage it looked like the mud might claim her.  Likewise I hear from my sources that the students are now all expert crabbers.  Of course lots of work was done too!

Whilst it may be a grey and murky start to the week there is lots to look forward to.  On Tuesday evening we look forward to welcoming our Year 7 parents to the ‘Meet the Tutor’ event.  At 6pm there are a brief series of talks to go through the systems and processes in school so parents become more familiar with the Hinchingbrooke Way.  This is then followed by an opportunity to meet your son/daughter’s form tutor and receive their first report with settling in information.  This will give an early indication of how well they are doing in lessons and whether they are organised. 

On Tuesday 3rd October there is a second event for Year 7 parents.  This will be a special lively and interactive parent and child workshops.  These are run by ‘Learning Performance’ and will help you and your child with techniques on how best to learn, how to revise and review, prepare for tests and exams and memory techniques.  With research showing that students equipped with these strategies can make 8 months of extra progress, why wouldn’t you sign up?  Session run from 4-5.30pm and 6.30-8pm.  Places are going fast so please return the slip from the letter sent home ASAP to your child’s form tutor or contact the Lower School Office.

Lucky Year 13 Art students are off to York on Thursday – staying for a few days to soak up the culture and make the best of seeing and experiencing art first hand.  Glastonbrooke Unplugged also occurs this week – on Thursday, so lots going on already.  There are all sorts of Musical opportunities for students to get involved with too:

 

Monday lunchtime – Pop Choir for Years 7-9

Tuesday lunchtime – Swing Band – all year groups welcome

Wednesday lunchtime – Ukulele Orchestra for all year groups

Thursday lunchtime – Fusion band and Flute Choir

Thursday after school – Guitar Orchestra for all year groups and abilities

Friday lunchtime – Senior Choir for Y9-13

Friday after school – Hinchingbrooke Community Choir for parents, students, staff and friends

 

Also if your child wants to start playing a musical instrument or singing lessons then please contact the Music Department ASAP as places are going fast!

Also happening this week is the Interhouse Swimming Competition.  On Wednesday lunch and form time it’s Year 7 and 8 and then the turn of Years 9-11 on Friday.  In the attempt of being unbiased – good luck to all the houses and competitors, but of course here’s hoping Pepys wins!

 

Our theme this week starts to unpack the One School rule, focusing as it does on the need to respect our environment.  It amazes me, that despite being so far from the sea, the number of seagulls we get scavenging on the school site.  No doubt my scientific friends will claim it is linked to evolution and survival, but students throwing litter around the site attracts these birds.  If students ensure that food and litter makes it’s way into the numerous bins around the school site, then the number of aerial visitors might decline.

• Thursday 5^th October – Year 6 Open Evening (5:30 – 7:30pm)
• Monday 9^th, Wednesday 11^th and Friday 13^th - Year 6 Open Mornings (9-10am)
• Wednesday 18^th October – Year 11 Parents’ Evening
