Admissions

As an Academy, the Governors are responsible for establishing the Admission Criteria and Oversubscription Criteria for the School. These are set out in our admissions policies, available to download from the bottom of this page.

Catchment Area
The school's catchment area is described in the Admission Policy. A map of the school catchment area is available on the My Cambridgeshire website, accessed via the link in the right-hand menu, where you can also enter your address details to determine your catchment school.

Applying for a Year 7 Place (September of next Academic Year)
The application process for admissions into Year 7 is co-ordinated by Cambridgeshire Local Authority (LA), which acts on behalf of the governing body to offer places at the School. All parents are advised to read the ‘Next Steps’ Local Authority booklet for parents on secondary admissions.

Parents should apply online at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/admissions or submit a Cambridgeshire Application Form, available from their child’s primary school or from the LA Admissions Team, no later than the national closing date on 31st October. The LA will issue offer letters on the National Offer Date (1st March or first working day after). The LA Admissions Team will handle late applications (those submitted after the national closing date).

For further information and specific dates, please refer to the full scheme for secondary co-ordination, available from the LA Admissions Team or from the website www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/children-and-families/schools-&-learning/apply-for-a-school-place/secondary-school/

Applying for an In-Year Place (Moving Schools)
Applications for In-Year places (i.e. places in Year 7 after September and for Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 at any time of the year), are made by submitting a Hinchingbrooke School 'In Year Application Form' (available at the bottom of this page) to the School Admissions team accompanied by the required documentary evidence (guidance available at the bottom of this page).

The school is organised to accommodate up to its Published Admission Number (350 pupils). In the event of over-subscription the criteria set out in our Admissions Policy (see bottom of this page) will be applied and places offered in accordance with those criteria. Please note that for in-year applications a child's details will be held on the waiting list for two terms, including the term of application. After this time the school Admissions Team should be contacted if applicants wish their child(ren) to remain on the waiting list. Names held on the waiting list will not automatically be carried over to a new school year.

The Admission Team can be contacted at admissions@hbk.acesmat.uk
