OFSTED RECOGNISE THE ‘MARKED IMPROVEMENT’ AT HINCHINGBROOKE SCHOOL

Following an inspection at the end of April, Ofsted has judged Hinchingbrooke School to be ‘good’ in all areas.

“Pupils are well prepared to be the next generation of adults in modern Britain.”

“The quality of teaching has improved since the last inspection and is consistently good and often outstanding.”

“The most-able pupils achieve well, particularly in English and mathematics …….the school’s work to promote pupils’ independence and resilience prepares the most able pupils particularly well for the next phase of their education.”

The report praised the students’ behaviour and attitude to learning:

“Pupils have positive attitudes to learning ….their conduct around the school is good and often exemplary.” “Most pupils conduct themselves impeccably and walk around the large school estate sensibly and considerately. They move through corridors calmly…..”

“Pupils care for each other and their community”; “Pupils value their education and most take responsibility for their conduct.

The Sixth Form was also praised. All of the teaching for the Sixth form was strong and the report praised staff who “…use their thorough understanding of subjects and the examination syllabus to plan effective lessons.” Sixth Form learners are “happy, courteous and responsible” and were praised for their contribution to running school committees and clubs and for their charity work. Sixth Form leaders “set high targets and expectations are raised about what learners need to do to achieve high standards.”

The Principal, Andrew Goulding, said:

“I would like to thank staff, governors and students for their hard work in achieving these improvements. I would also like to thank parents for their support and work with the school. There is still more to do, if we are to achieve the ‘outstanding’ judgement that I know we can. Being recognised as ‘good across the board’ provides a welcome acknowledgement for everyone’s hard work and a great platform from which to achieve even higher standards.”
