WEEK A

Monday 18 November 2019 - Message of the Week

Friday 15 November 2019 - Another week has passed, packed with visits, performances inter-house and charity events.

Golden Antler Winners

Each week the tutor groups with the highest number of 5s (for great attitudes to learning) are awarded a Golden Antler trophy.

This week’s winners of the Golden Antlers trophies are Mr Jago’s 7V1 for the Lower School award, for the third time this year. Also, 9V2 with Mrs Treen and Miss Cater who won the Middle School Trophy for the first time this week.

A clean sweep for Vesey House! Congratulations to both of these tutor groups for their efforts and showing positive attitudes to learning this week.

House Point Competition

Every week, the House Leaders will collect their team’s House Point totals for the ongoing House Point competition.  Throughout the year, House Points are earned by students in Years 7 to 11.  At the end of each term, the winning House with the most House Points earned, earns the opportunity to fly their flag from the top of Hinchingbrooke House.

Congratulations to Montagu House who have overtaken Pepys again this week to take the position on top of the House Point table once again. Miss Phillips will be pleased that in her absence, Montagu House are still going strong!

Inter-house News

On Wednesday 13 November 2019, Hinchingbrooke School broke records with their annual Inter-House Cross Country event. Last year, 747 students participated in the event which was the largest participation figure the PE department has witnessed. This year, the House Leaders were hopeful that they could break this record once again, and after a few weeks of preparing the teams, the students and staff of Hinchingbrooke School stepped up to the challenge!

This year, 802 athletes and ‘fun-runners’ took part in the event.  Alongside the historical Inter-House race, Pepys House organised an official inaugural ‘Schools Race for Life’ charity run.  This gave the students and staff the option to compete for their House, run for charity or just participate for the physical challenge.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the event the huge success that is was. Through sponsorship on donations on the day, the event raised over £800 for Cancer Research UK, the House Charity for Pepys and Wylton House.

The winners of each year group can be seen below.  These students have contributed significantly to their House teams’ points totals.  Congratulations to all who took part.

Sainsbury Laboratory Cambridge University (SLCU) Trip

Our Science department led a trip for the A Level Biology students this week to the Sainsbury Laboratory. Year 12 Biologists spent the day meeting some working research scientists, participating in a Biology escape room, looking at plant samples prepared by Charles Darwin himself and they explored the Cambridge Botanic Garden.

Victor and Victrix Ludorum

The Victor and Victrix Ludorum are Latin terms for ‘Winner of the Games’.  At Hinchingbrooke School, this accolade is awarded to the boy and girl who have demonstrated an inspirational level of commitment and participation within their pursuit of sporting excellence.

The 2019 winners are Bradley McKenna and Sophie Bambridge, who follow in the footsteps of some great international athletes who started their careers at Hinchingbrooke School. They include Caroline Pearce, Iwan Thomas, Darren Bent and Hannah Macleod, all of who won these awards before going on to represent their country in their chosen sports.

A huge congratulations to Bradley and Sophie, and good luck in the future!

Year 7 Rugby District Finals

This week our Year 7 boys played in their first District Championship.  Hinchingbrooke fielded two teams for the competition, with the first team winning four out of five matches, whilst the second team won all four of their games.

Mr Chilton was extremely proud of his squad’s performance on the day and is looking forward to what the future holds for these boys going forward.

Year 10 Netball

The Year 10 netball team made a great start to their fixtures this season, winning all three of their games in the first round.

They won against two Ivo teams 11-1 and 9-2 and also beat Longsands 11-1.  Mrs Stevens is looking forward to more of the same next week.
