KS3 Courses

Music is taught to all students in KS3, in classes of 22, once a week in 50 minute lessons. The programme followed covers a wide range of musics and is planned to enable progression, both with the year and key stage and also to KS4. We are looking to improve the learning of our students through the National Strategy for Music, through which we expect to be able to raise attainment and especially engagement. This year (summer 2007) we celebrated record numbers of students achieving Level 6 and above, and also an improvement in the average end of key stage achivevment (from 5.37 to 5.73)

KS4 Courses

Our GCSE syllabus is Edexcel. The course is open to students of all abilities. We are always happy to discuss with students and parents about Music as a GCSE choice (please email or speak to Mr Hudson). Please see also the edexcel website if you interested about the course content.

In 2007/8 we are pleased to be able to offer Music GCSE both during curriculum time and also after school on Wednesdays and Fridays.

KS5 Courses

We teach AS and A2 Music and AS and A2 Music Technology. The AS Music course is open to anyone who has achieved a B or higher in their Music GCSE, at least Grade 4 on their instrument by the beginning of the course, and an understanding of music theory at Grade 5 level. If you have not taken GCSE, or the others requirements seem difficult please do speak to us about them! The edexcel website gives the details of the course content.

For AS Music Technology you do not need instrumental skills, but these will of course help you. We do ask that you achieve a Grade B in GCSE music. Again, if you have not taken GCSE, or the others requirements seem difficult please do speak to us about them! The edexcel website gives the details of the course content.
