Montagu's Official Charity

Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital

(Click the words above to access the GOSH website)

This year's charity was selected by Montagu members and has had a positive impact upon the lives of many Montagu pupils and other pupils throughout Hinchingbrooke School.  Great Ormond Street is a specialised Children's Hospital in London and is a registered charity, therefore anything that is donated and has a gift-aid declaration can be tax free, thus resulting in more money for Great Ormond Street (GOSH).

Great Ormond Street is the most well-established Children's Hospital in the world and is renowned globally as a place that is friendly and welcoming, designed especially to make hospitals friendly to children who may otherwise feel intimidated and/or scared. Great Ormond Street has a fantastic ethical and pastoral attitude towards paediatrics and child-treatment, even to the extent of having bed-space for parents/guardians/carers.

A cool fact about Great Ormond Street is that any production, book, film (etc) that is produced, printed or published based on J.M. Barrie's 'Peter Pan' has to give all of the royalties to Great Ormond Street, as they were left to them by Mr. Barrie.  Recently, the maximum time for the rights to be legally held by GOSH was up, so the English government passed a special act that allowed Great Ormond Street to keep these royalties to keep improving the lives of children in the world.  Good stuff hey?

Below you will find some slides from the official Great Ormond Street Powerpoint.  Please feel free to look at it at your leisure in order to know more about the charity that you are helping.  However, the images remain the sole property of Great Ormond Street and you are therefore not legally entitled to use them without their prior permission.  We are using them on this website because Great Ormond Street schools and charities department specifically sent them to us.  Whilst we are on the subject, sincere thanks need to be given to Bridget from the schools and charities department for being really helpful, understanding and generally fantastic.  From all in Montagu house and Hinchingbrooke School - thanks a bunch!

Although one would think that children may be nervous about coming to hospital, this poem by someone helped by Great Ormond Street, who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, shows that many of our patients are very relieved to come to GOSH, because they know that they will be safe and cared for, and will go home feeling better!

Many years ago, parents were only allowed to visit their sick children once a week! Nowadays we understand how vital it is for the parents to remain close to their child as much as possible. We promise to provide accommodation for at least one parent, and in many cases such as heart transplants and cancer patients, a parent can comfortably sleep in the same room as their son or daughter.
