Following on from the success of last year's event , the history department at Hinchingbrooke School ran a Cromwell Challenge Day for all pupils in year 8, on Monday 5th March 2007. The day, led by Miss Dacey, comprised five different workshops looking at different aspects of Cromwell's life. Current leading historian David Smith was on hand during the day to help provide the opportunity for pupils to extend their thinking on interpretations of Cromwell. John Goldsmith, curator of the Cromwell Museum and Head of the Cromwell Association was also present, with artefacts borrowed from the Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon. The activities ranged from discussing whether or not the local historical figure was a hero or villain, to designing a statue of Cromwell himself. The apt setting of Hinchingbrooke House was used throughout the day for children to learn, discover and investigate. Sixth form students also helped throughout the day and were given the opportunity to talk to David Smith in a Question and Answer session to aid their A-level preparation. This was a valuable opportunity as Smith is a leading historian in his field and one of the authors A-level students read in their studies.
