Aims of the Department

Design and Technology is essentially a practical subject and involves pupils in the designing and making of tangible outcomes.  By its nature it is concerned with the practical process of using materials to develop solutions to problems.

Design and Technology is a wide-ranging subject that calls on knowledge and concepts developed within all of the other areas of the school curriculum.

Design and Technology applies and extends these in a practical manner, reinforcing, enhancing and bringing to life the whole school curriculum.

Design and Technology develops in pupils an awareness of both the social and scientific nature of society and equips them to be confident and active members within it.

We aim to inspire every student to achieve their utmost, as such we naturally treat every participant as being gifted or talented in some form.

In order to achieve this we aim to:

• Develop practical expertise in each of the specialist areas of Design and Technology

• Provide pupils with the knowledge and understanding associated with each of the specialist areas of Design and Technology

• Provide opportunities for ALL pupils to succeed and achieve their potential in each of the specialist areas of Design and Technology

• Provide opportunities for pupils to take control of the designing and making process in each of the specialist areas of Design and Technology

The Design and Technology Department needs as many donations as possible to continue to produce the high standard of work that has been witnessed in the past.
