The theatre staff, public and coach driver all commented on how well behaved the students were, which is lovely to hear (although not unexpected).  The staff who accompanied the students also commented on what an asset to the school the 50 Year 8 students are.

Another exciting week beckons what with the rehearsals for the school production continuing as the opening night rushes towards us.  Loserville runs from 8^th-11^th February with curtain up at 7pm prompt each night.  Tickets are available online at:

On Tuesday (19^th) 200 of our Year 11 students will be waiting with baited breath for their iGCSE English results.  These will be handed out at form time.  I would say fingers crossed, but I know the students worked really hard, and we fully expect the results to reflect the fantastic grades the students fully deserve!

Equally I am looking forward to the Personal Development Day on Friday (22^nd).  The theme is Festival of Ideas which is all based around the idea of Charity.  The students are going to work in small groups within their own forms to create a new charity for something they are passionate about and (using The Apprentice style challenges and tasks) they will plan and then present these plans for marketing campaigns, adverts, online presence and an event. The end of the day is the time for groups to show their work. It looks to be a very active and creative day with the students learning key skills which will be invaluable in the work place.  This week’s theme is based around the topic of charity to support this day and to encourage the students to think about the plight of others in preparation for Friday.

In the last PD Day (just before Christmas) the students all voted on the EU Referendum about whether the UK should remain part of the European Union.  After a number of sessions looking at the pros and cons, the students and staff body, overwhelmingly voted to remain part of the EU.  It remains to be seen if the country follows suit when the referendum takes place before the end of 2017.

The Music Department is off to see Miss Saigon this week (Thursday 21^st) with a selection of students from Years 10-13.  With the Sixth Form Trial Exams looming Y13 have a study day and Year 12 have drop in sessions to attend on Friday.  The Art Exams start this week, so good luck to all those students involved.  To see what the PE Department have been up to click on the following link to their Sport's Report:

Doddle is the new homework and assessment software being used by the school this year.  Since October just over 37,000 pieces of homework have been completed, which is an average of 20 per student.  Mrs Burns in English has classes who have completed 856 pieces and Miss Neasham’s classes (also in English) have completed 634 tasks!

Talking of competitions the Golden Antlers Awards continue to be hard fought.  In the first week of this term it was 7M1 and Mr Hall who clocked up the most 5s in Lower School.  In the Middle School it was 11M3, Miss Patrick’s form who took the prize.  Last week there was a tie in Middle School between 10C2 (Mr Hoole’s form) and 11M3 (Miss Patrick’s form), whereas the clear winners in Lower School, were 7W1, Miss Gilbert’s form.  Well done to all, and keep collecting those 5s.
