WHAT EXACTLY IS THE ROCK CHALLENGE™?

The Global Rock Challenge™ (GRC) is a chance for schools to take part in a dance, drama and design spectacular. While the result is a professionally staged event, the GRC is about having fun while making healthy lifestyle choices and enjoying a 100% drug-free experience. Students, teachers, parents and communities work together over many months helping to prepare the school’s eight minute performance. Up to 140 students take part in an exhilarating day, culminating in a live event performance in front of hundreds of families and friends.

ROCK CHALLENGE 2009

On 3rd April 2009 over 80 Hinchingbrooke students took part in presenting our piece entitled ‘Believe in Yourself’ at the 2009 Rock Challenge, held at Grimsby Theatre.  Michelle Trewin (Assistant Head of PE) and Leanne Copley (Dance teacher) began the project in October and over 5 months put together a dance piece to be proud of. With the assistance of other staff members and, most importantly, the students, the piece became something everyone could have ownership of.

This was a great experience for all students ranging from yr 8 – yr13, who took part in performing, lighting, filming, stage managing and bringing a fantastic performance to the stage.  Students’ efforts were rewarded by the school being presented with two awards of Concept Originality and Public Awareness, as the piece had been perfromed in the PAC two days previously.

Special thanks go to Dawn Smith, Pete Brennan and Marie Brooks for their continued support and also to all who travelled down to Grimsby to support us, it meant a lot to have familiar faces in the audience.
