AS Biology -  BB in Double Science

A2 Biology – E in AS Biology

Brief Outline of the course:

AS in year 12

Foundation – cells, biochemistry, enzymes, genetics and ecology (exam in January)

Human health and disease – Diseases, diet, respiration and exercise (exam in June)

Transport – mammalian and plant transport. (exam in June)

Coursework (Exam in June)

A2 in year 13

Central concepts – energy and respiration, photosynthesis, ecosystems, genetics and evolution (exam in Jan)

Growth Development and reproduction – in plants and animals including humans (exam in June)

Unifying concepts – this is a synoptic module. (exam in june)

Coursework (exam in June)

Work load:

• 4 ½ hrs lesson time each week

• 4 ½ hrs work outside lesson time (at least). This includes some teacher led work and some student led work.

• Reading around subject

• Watching appropriate TV programmes

• Other work as necessary
