Why choose this subject? • If you want a career in the caring professions then this is the subject for you. • If you like to take charge of your own learning and enjoy linking this to the world of work, then choose this subject. • These are qualifications that you can build on in school or later in the work place. These can lead to further education, a degree or a job. Courses offered and entry requirements: VCE H/S Care 3 Unit Award (AS equivalent), VCE H/S Care 6 Unit Award (AS plus A2 equivalent) and VCE H/S Care 12 Unit Award (2 A2 equivalent). For the VCEs a grade C in Science is preferable and 5 Grade C or above GCSE's. Brief outline of courses: VCE 3 unit……one examined and two portfolio (units 1,2 and 5) VCE 6 unit two to be examined and four portfolio (units 1,2,4 and 5 plus 2 optional units) For details of the units available please see website: www.edexcel.or.uk Work load You will have 4 hours a week and usually two teachers for the 3 and 6 unit awards. Only a third of your work will be examined, the rest of your work will be portfolio (coursework) You will be in charge of your own learning. This is a vocational course and you will be expected to plan and carry out you own research. This is both a practical and academic course and requires your enthusiasm and commitment as this is what you will receive from your teachers!
