Why choose Government and Politics?

This course will give you valuable insights into the world of political ideas, processes and key Institutions. There can be no better time to study Government and Politics due to the rapidity of change in the world. The collapse of communism in eastern Europe, the aftermath of 9/11, the growth of the European Union, are all events which have and will continue to touch our lives. A successful student of Politics will leave the course with a developing knowledge of both domestic and International issues, and will have the skills necessary to make effective contributions to future political debates.

Entry requirements; A grade C in English language is preferred.

Brief Outline of the course:

 All examinations are assessed through a written paper. There are no coursework requirements.

Module 1. Electoral Systems and Voting Behaviour.

Module 2. Parties and Pressure Groups.

Module 3. Governing Britain.

A2

Module 4. Comparison of UK and USA Government.

Module 5. The Politics of the USA.

Module 6. Synoptic paper.

Workload:

You will have 5 lessons per week.

You will be expected to keep up to date by watching current events on TV and reading quality newspapers. You are encouraged to incorporate internet research into working habits.

Course content is delivered via a range of teaching and learning activities which include, lectures, small group presentations, discussions and debates.

Past questions are set for homework every two to three weeks.
