Courses offered & minimum entry requirements:

AS Music  Minimum entry ‘B’ at GCSE Music or equivalent other qualifications eg grade 5 theory and grade 5 on an instrument

A2 Music  E in AS Music

Brief Outline of the course:

AS  Performing, minimum grade 5 level

  Developing musical ideas (composition exercises)

  Composition

  Listening

  Understanding – Which involves knowledge and analysis of set works

A2  You specialise in either composing or performing

  Develop compositional techniques

  Develop listening and analysing

Work load:

• 4 hours lesson time per week

• additional listening

• homework on knowledge and analysis of set works

• homework on compositional techniques and composition

• developing performing skills – practice. Lessons, concerts

• research

Extra Notes

• A level Music and A level Music Technology are two separate, but complementary courses.

• A level Music combines well with all subjects, arts and sciences
