Why study ICT?

The course allows the student to acquire knowledge across a wide range of software applications whilst simultaneously promoting the acquisition of  transferable skills with respect to research, design and analysis.

The rationale for this compulsory course stems from the positive correlation apparent between student possession of strong ICT skills and their achievement in other Advanced subjects.

Courses offered & minimum entry requirements:

This is a one-year course, consisting of three compulsory units and is an AS qualification.  ICT Applied is designed to allow you to move on to Higher Education and attracts the same credit with university admissions tutors as any other ‘AS’ qualification.

All advanced students at Hinchingbrooke will be expected to complete this award. Exceptions to this will be made for those already enrolled on five year 12 ‘AS’ courses or those who select Applied ICT as one of their option courses.

Students who are considering completing the 6 unit ICT must select ICT as one of their sixth form options – this mandatory course will not usually provide access to the 6 unit qualification.

Brief Outline of the course:

Students will complete 3 units of work over the lower and upper sixth. Brief outlines of each unit are as follows:

1) The Information Age

2) The Digital Economy

3) The Knowledge Worker

descriptions of each unit can be found at the weblink listed below.

Work load.

The bulk of work for this course is delivered through two timetabled lessons per week.
