Why choose ICT? ICT at advanced level is a flexible qualification, where subjects can be selected from a range of ICT units. The course allows the student to acquire skills across a wide range of software applications whilst also promoting the analytical skills necessary for successful involvement in ICT employment. The development of a students advanced ICT skills inevitably benefits the quality of research, analysis and presentation of other sixth form courses and thus blends well with all other subject combinations. Courses offered & minimum entry requirements: This is a one or two year, full-time course, consisting of three/six units, and is an AS or A Level. ICT Applied is designed to allow you to move on to Higher Education or to go directly into employment The entry requirements for the Applied courses are 4 GCSE grades A-C The course can be differentiated from the compulsory Applied course run at Hinchingbrooke by virtue of its accelerated completion time and the opportunity it provides for students to complete a 6 unit, two year qualification. Brief Outline of the course: The Information and Communication Technology Applied GCE enables you to develop higher level IT skills using a range of popular software. This qualification also helps you to develop critical understanding of how organisations use IT to communicate effectively both internally and externally. Throughout the course you take responsibility for producing e-portfolios of research, each investigation looking at a different aspect of IT use within a commercial environment. The focus of the course is to develop vocational skills, which will allow you to make a significant contribution to the success of whatever organisation you decide to work in. Detailed descriptions of each unit can be found at the weblink listed below. Work load: The workload of the course is similar to other Advanced courses. The assessment of all bar one unit via a student e-portfolio reduces some of the pressure points of an examination only course but requires students to be well organized and motivated throughout the year.
