Welcome to Hinchingbrooke 6th Form

Our 6th Form Centre is exceptionally located in Hinchingbrooke House, a grade 1 listed building, formerly the home of the Montagu family. The House is home to the 6th Form Guidance team, and is the main study and social area for our students.

The 6th Form curriculum offers a comprehensive range of courses including; AS and A2 (including Applied programmes.) On this website you will find course outlines giving you further details, please click on the department names found from the sixth form curriculum tab. Do not hesitate to contact us if you need further information.

From September 2010 we are continuing to offer students the opportunity to take the new Cambridge International A Level which is called the Pre U. This is a linear course only and is sat towards the end of Year 13. The subjects which have successfully been introduced last year, and will continue are; Comparative Government (Politics of the UK/USA), Global Perspectives and Independent Research, and Mathematics. New for September 2010 entry will be German and Psychology. For a syllabus outline of each of these courses click on the subject above.

Due to the linear nature of these courses they will not be suitable for all students. To access our entry policy for the Pre U please click here. The Pre U may be taken in conjunction with A/S level programmes in certain combinations. For further guidance please click here.

Hinchingbrooke School encourages all students to participate in its vast range of extra curricular activities. These range from Performing Arts through to Sport and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. In addition, all year 12 students do 24 hours per year on community and school service.

A key aim of Post 16 education at Hinchingbrooke is to provide all of our students with the learning opportunities, which will enable them to successfully progress into Further Education, Training and Employment. We will treat you and expect you to behave like a young professional, and we expect the highest standards in all aspects of our work together.

We are proud of our recent Ofsted report (April 2008), which described the 6th form as “popular and expanding, where students benefit from a wide range of academic and applied GCE courses".  The Inspectors went on to comment that, "as a result of good teaching, standards have improved and are now good", it continued, "students' personal development is outstanding and their participation in extra curricular activities good. They play a leading role in the life of the school and opportunities for students to develop their personal qualities and enterprise are very good". Staff were observed as being very caring and to provide outstanding levels of support. The sixth form was judged to be managed well on a day to day basis and students' progress monitored effectively. The leadership was descibed as "good".
