Why Choose DT Product Design/ Resistant Materials? This is a highly successful and well-established course, which will develop your creative and academic skills. It will give you the opportunity to develop and make innovative projects and study the work of 20th century designers. Many of our students go on to careers in various areas of design (Product Design, Architecture, Animation, Graphic Design). Our students have also won awards this year including: Rotary Design Competition, 5 out of 6 local awards. Rotary Design Competition, 4 out of 5 awards at regional level. Audi young designer of the year in Northampton. 2005, 7 out of 7 clean sweep at Rotary Design Awards. Use of I.T. is positively encouraged. Course offered: DT Product Design/Resistant Materials Entry requirements are: an obvious interest in design. Grade B in any DT GCSE option. Grade C considered with department approval. IMPORTANT: YOU CAN ONLY STUDY EITHER GRAPHICS OR RESISTANT MATERIALS Brief Outline of the course: AS Unit 1 Product Development. A design and make coursework project, 50% of AS 25% of A2. Unit 2 Theory - Knowledge and Understanding of Product Design, 50% of AS. A2 Unit 3 Product Development. A design and make coursework project, 25% of A2 Unit 4 Theory - Further study on Knowledge and Understanding of Product Design, 25% of A2 All units are the same for both options, but the materials and products are relevant to the material area. Work load You will have 4.5 lessons per week. This is an enjoyable, but demanding course. The work is very structured, but good independent study skills are required. Coursework is regularly monitored with opportunities given to rework areas before final assessment. Course content is delivered through a mixture of practical design tasks and some written assignments.
