Why choose Applied Business?

It examines relevant “real world” issues.

It is one of the fastest growing courses in Further and Higher education.

It complements other subjects offered at this level.

It is assessed in a “continual” way: you can re-work topics covered in Year 12 when you are in Year 13 Assessment is based more on “coursework” rather than exams.

The pass rate for this course is between 95% and 100%.

Courses offered & minimum entry requirements:

The courses offered are very flexible.  You can choose either;

• AVCE (Double Award) : (same as 2 A2 levels)

• AVCE : (same as 1 A2 level)

Most units are assessed through the production of a portfolio assignment (similar to producing coursework).  However, some are assessed through an exam.

Examples of units you may study include;

Unit 1:   Business at work

Unit 2:   The competitive business environment

Unit 3:   Marketing

Unit 4:   Human Resources

Unit 5:   Business Finance

Unit 8:   Marketing Research

Unit 10: Customer Service

Unit 19: Motivating and Developing People

The work will mainly be in report format.

Further you will be expected to do the following;

• Keep accurate notes from lessons

• Keep up to date by reading newspapers and watching current affairs programmes on television and radio

• Research “real world” organisations and apply them to the theory

• Meet deadlines
