In Year 7 and Year 8, all students study either French or German. In Year 9, students may choose to study Spanish as a second foreign langauges within a selection of ''option' subjects; Beginners courses in Japanese and Arabic are also available. End of Key Stage 3 National Curriculum Levels for Modern Foreign Languages for the students' first foreign language are reported in Year 9, at the end of Key Stage 3. In Key Stage 4 (Years 10 amd 11), all students are encouraged to continue with one or two foreign languages, but the study of a modern foreign language is no longer compulsory. Those who continue are prepared for GCSE examinations in their chosen language(s): French, German or Spanish. In Years 12 and 13, students may choose to study French, German or Spanish at AS / A2 level. In the course of the year, there is a Lower School French exchange to St Germain-en-Laye (Paris), both a Lower and Middle School German exchange to Herrenberg and the possibility of a residential trip to Spain. In addition, in the Sixth Form, trips to France, Germany and Spain are encouraged. Modern Languages Staff:
