Houses and Forms.
Are you worried about not making friends, losing friends or maybe being lonely? If you said 'Yes' to any of these questions then you are not alone. This is the biggest worry of most year 6 pupils.
At Hinchingbrooke there will be about 300 pupils in year 7. Each year is then arranged into 10 forms which are attached to four 'houses' : Cromwell, Pepys, Montagu and Vesey.
If you are starting here in September 2008 it will look like this:
Cromwell Forms Pepys Forms Montagu Forms Vesey Forms
7C1, 7C2 and 7C3 7P1, 7P2 and 7P3 7M1 and 7M2 7V1 and 7V2
Each form has a form tutor and a co-tutor. Your tutor will see you every morning in registration and he / she is the main person that you will be able to get help from. Your co-tutor is a member of the Learning Support Department and they work in lessons as teaching assistants.
There are between 28 - 30 students in each form. We mix all of the forms up, so that there are pupils from lots of different primary school.
How will forms be organised?
We ask your year 6 class teachers how we should organise you. We put you into groups of 4 - 8 depending on the number of pupils coming from your school. Groups are mixed ability and a mixture of girls / boys. We choose individuals who we think will work well together.
Coming alone, or with just another? Then don't worry. We have a pre-taster day where you will be invited to come along to meet other pupils from smaller schools / out of catchment areas. The date for 2008 is Friday June 27th. You will be invited to attend this by letter. If you are worried that you have not been invited and should have been then email me.
The BIG TASTER DAY is on Wednesday 16th July, and all year 6 pupils coming to Hinchingbrooke will be invited to attend. Your primary school will pass on the letters / information about this. Make sure that you bring along your transition units work for English, Maths, Science and IT in the plastic wallets.
