Able, Gifted and Talented Students - Parental Action Group

Can you spare some time to help support the Able, Gifted and Talented programme at Hinchingbrooke School?

Who are we?

Parents of students who have been identified as either Able, Gifted or Talented who meet regularly with Mr M Hancock(the Lead Teacher for AGT) and Ann Bunting (the link Governor), to discuss and action matters relating to the programme at Hinchingbrooke School.

However, we would welcome any parent who wishes to join us and attend the Parental Action Group meetings, whether their child is part of the A, G & T scheme or not.

What do we do?

Currently we focus on three areas:

Communication and Information

• Explaining the aims of the scheme to parents, students and teachers
• Liaising between parents, students and the A, G and T Co-ordinator to sort out any problems or misconceptions arising from the introduction of the scheme
• Maintaining the A, G and T web site with news and information

Practical Help

• Setting up display boards
• Helping with catering arrangements at A, G & T parent evenings

Enrichment Activities

• Accompanying children as an adult volunteer on ‘out of school’ visits
• Suggesting and co-ordinating particular enrichment activities

For example, one parent saw archaeologists working in the St Neot’s area and contacted them to see if a visit to the site would be possible. They agreed and those A G & T students with a particular interest in History were able to visit the site and experience what it is really like to work as an archaeologist!

We meet twice a term, usually on a Thursday afternoon, between 4 pm and 5 pm in the Staff Room to review activities and identify new actions.
