Welcome to the Food and Textiles Department.
The underlying aim of the Food and Textiels department is to enable our students to lead effective lives as individuals and members of a family and community and to help them with the praciticalities and responsiblities of living in a constantly changing social, economic technological environment. We endeavour to provide learning experiences which encourage pupils to use a wide variety of skills. The school has been awarded the Healthy Schools mark and the recipes used within the department reflect this initiative.
We aim to have all students cooking independently. We also realise it may occasionally be difficult to organise the provision of ingredients and in this case we are happy to help out when necessary, but please let us know by the Friday of the week before. You will also see * next to some ingredients on some of our recipes. This means we will provide these ingredients. As far as possible we try to provide an element of choice with recipes, and often ingredients can be substituted. It is important that your preferences are considered too. Yeaars 7, 8 and 9 come for two different experiences during the year. Each module lasts 6 weeks. Year 7 Licence to Cook.
