By 2010 schools are expected to provide five elements of extended schools; childcare, a varied menu of activities, swift and easy access to specialist services, parenting support including family learning and community access to facilities. These can be delivered on the school site, or via existing services or partnerships in the community. We are keen to hear your views, so that our services can reflect community needs.

A partnership of 21 HuntSNet schools have developed projects including a joint School Nurse and Parent Support Advisor. Sheila Wotherspoon is the Extended Schools Out of Hours Co-ordinator working with Hinchingbrooke School and its feeder Primary Schools and is developing a varied menu of opportunities Projects at Hinchingbrooke include an audit of student participation, new cookery courses and music lessons for £1. Research has shown that a varied menu of activities gives children and young people opportunities to excel outside the classroom, transforming attitudes and building self-esteem.
